Amanda Brugel
(February 27th of 2010 to Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a secluded community in this part of the island of Montreal that is known as the West Island. Many people who don't know about the place mistakenly think that it is the West Island extends westward from Montreal. Actually it is it is the West Island includes everything westward of the city of Lachine. Amanda Brugel's birthplace has been frequently cited, however her short time in the city was not. Brugel lived in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. She wanted to become a professional dancer, but due to a rapid growth spurt she outgrew all of her dancing partners. She admitted in an article published by The Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall, even when she wears heels. As I got bigger than my male partners, I quit. Many dancers make the transition into acting. In the case of Brugel, it was her drama teacher who encouraged her into this path. The teacher suggested she try to get a role for the school's annual show. The school's production was a success and she was selected to play the principal character in Anne of Green Gables after she auditioned for. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. Brugel's career spans over twenty years, and she's been in over 60 productions, both on big screens as well as smaller screens. Her most recognizable role was as Rita (pictured below) on The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member for the season 1 of the series, and only appeared on occasion.
